HAZMAT Training - March 2014.

As part of the brigade’s annual training program for 2014 B shift facilitated hazmat awareness skills maintenance over the evenings of 24th & 31st March. The 2 week program finished with a practical drill scenario where members responding in the 1st arriving Pumper appliance were required to don splash suits & perform an emergency decontamination & evacuation of an exposed worker. Additional members were then required to don gas suits & collect information to identify the spilled chemical & then take appropriate action to contain the chemical. A full decontamination zone was also constructed for members to practice full decontamination of the splash suit & gas suit wearers. The members who participated included: SSO Thornton, LFF Currie, FF Lennox, Lt Hutchins, Lt Pritchard, VFF Church, VFF Ellis, VFF Will Gordon, VFF Hayes, VFF Howarth, VFF Maslen, VFF Read, VFF Rolton, VFF Stebbins, VFF Rachel Young and VFF Ross Williams

A special thanks to VFF Cameron & VFF Smith from Frankston Fire Brigade for bringing Frankston BA Van, and VFF Fiona & VFF Russell from Hastings Fire Brigade for bringing Hastings Hazmat/Salvage appliance, and for their assistance during the practical drill on the evening of 31st March.
