Competition Teams

Please see our YouTube channel for some short video clips from the various events.

Mornington Fire Brigade has long been involved with fire fighting and  marching competitions held  across Victoria. Up to 20 brigade members and their families travel to many different locations – such as Koo Wee Rup, Bendigo and Maffra – for day Championships, where members compete against other brigades in events depicting historic and current fire fighting methods. These events range from one – eight person(s) competing against other brigades. A majority of these events involve the connecting of various hoses and fittings with or without water – all being judged on speed and efficiency.

The first minuted mention of the competition team in the brigade’s history books is the 9th January 1917, meaning the competition team has been around for as long as the brigade has. Mornington’s competition team also participate in running and marching competitions held over the Australia Day weekend (Eastern Districts) and the Labour Day weekend (State Championships), where teams from all across the state get together to compete. At these championships, they have the added feature of discipline marching where a team of seven, led by a commander, march around a course and are judged on their performance. Also included is a torchlight procession held through the streets of the host brigade’s town.

Divided into sections, Mornington were the winners of C Section at the 2012 State Championships held in Mooroopna.
